<image:title>Treatment - Depression & Anxiety</image:title>
<image:caption>When depressive/anxious feelings persist and begin to affect everyday life and normal functioning, an individual may be suffering from depression or anxiety. Treatment of symptoms varies based on the intensity and the severity of symptoms. Initial stages of therapy will focus on safety planning, identifying symptoms/triggers, and incorporating tools to relieve symptoms. Long term work will involve psychodynamic therapy to explore early childhood relationship patterns and how these may be impacting the way in which an individual views the world. I utilize Cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT) a form of psychotherapy that treats problems and boosts happiness and feelings of peace by modifying and challenging dysfunctional thoughts, emotions, and behaviors. CBT can work as well or better than medication to treat mental health disorders and can be effective if your depression or anxiety is mild or moderate. It also can help with more severe cases if combined (per recommendation of a skilled psychiatrist) with other treatments, such as antidepressants.</image:caption>

<image:title>Treatment - Children & Adolescents</image:title>
<image:caption>Your child is suffering and you may be confused and not know how to move forward. Perhaps your child is struggling in school, being bullied, suffering from anxiety and/or depression, experiencing difficulty within social situations, struggling with grades/athletics/extracurriculars, has been recently diagnosed with ADD/ADHD, or is experiencing stress due to a recent divorce. I understand that you, as the parent, must be able to trust your child’s therapist and the great responsibility we have as caretakers is to help move them forward towards a healthier life. It’s common for teens to feel shy about going to a therapist and there may be worry about being judged or concern others’ will think he or she has a mental illness. However, most teens find that spending time with an adult outside of their family and who is giving them one-on-one attention enjoy the experience very much. There are many reasons why a teen may need therapy: low self-esteem, anxiety/depression, being bullied, transitioning to college, developing healthy boundaries, social media/technology concerns, navigating peer/family relationships, life changes, normal stress/grades, and much much more! I hope I will be able to meet your teen soon so that I can support them on their journey of healing!</image:caption>

<image:title>Treatment - Stress & Life Transitions</image:title>
<image:caption>Pressure to perform and achieve our goals/accomplishments is intense for all ages. Adjusting to change can be difficult, as even positive life transitions tend to cause some levels of stress. Over the course of a lifetime, a person can expect to experience a significant amount of change. Some of these changes such as marriage, births, or new jobs are positive, however, other major life transitions, such as moving, grief, divorce, postpartum, retirement, or entering the “empty nest” phase of life may cause a significant amount of stress. Parenting, school/athletic/music pressures for children and teens, honors and AP courses, as well as the strains of daily social pressures. Those who find themselves experiencing difficulty coping with life transitions may find it helpful to seek treatment with talk therapy to be able to better adjust to changes they cannot control.</image:caption>

<image:title>Treatment - Grief & Loss</image:title>
<image:caption>Grief and loss counseling helps individuals work through negative thoughts, feelings, and memories associated with the loss of a loved one. Although grieving can occur for other types of losses as well (loss of goals, finances, career/pets, miscarriage, relationships); grief counseling is generally directed toward positive adjustment following the loss after the death of a close loved one. Grief counseling helps the individual recognize normal aspects of the grieving process, cope with the pain associated with the loss, feel supported through the anxiety surrounding life changes that may follow the loss, and develop strategies for seeking support and self-care. I will compassionately walk alongside you as you bravely and courageously process your grief and stay resilient along your journey.</image:caption>

<image:title>Specialty - Women’s Issues</image:title>
<image:caption>Women's issues refers to any concern that might impact a woman’s mental and emotional health and wellbeing. These concerns might be related to gender stereotyping or concerns related to women's physical health, but they are likely to include other challenges faced by women that have nothing to do with gender. Women may experience certain biological, environmental, and psychosocial challenges, and these concerns can have a significant impact on our minds and our bodies. (Miscarriage/marital discord/aging). Therapy to ease uncertainty about life after years of marriage can help reduce the effects of anxiety, a low mood, stress, and depression. I can help you find your sense of identity, boost your self esteem, explore creative outlets/strengths, identify coping skills and problem solving strategies to confront problems within your life, and reduce overall feelings of loneliness, resentments, and stress.</image:caption>

<image:title>Specialty</image:title>
<image:caption>Trauma Accelerated Resolution Therapy (ART): Treatment of trauma often depends on the type of trauma and the presenting symptoms. One of the most difficult parts of healing from trauma is actually having to talk about the trauma itself. However, A.R.T. is an evidence-based psychotherapy that fosters rapid recovery by reprogramming how the brain stores traumatic memories and imagery. A.R.T. has roots in and includes elements of existing evidence-based modalities. The treatment program incorporates memory visualization techniques that are enhanced by the use of horizontal eye movements, as well as memory reconsolidation, a way in which new information is incorporated into existing memories. This approach provides effective relief from the strong physical and emotional reactions associated with post-traumatic stress (PTSD), trauma, anxiety, depression, and performance. An evidence-based therapy, A.R.T. is reimbursable as a medical condition and is used at hospitals, private practices, and in other institutions that treat mental and behavioral health. AR.T. has also been adopted by the military as their most widely used and recommended trauma treatment. ART is a manualized therapy with specific techniques and protocols to use with different problems; whether the problem is trauma from sexual abuse, depression, anxiety, or smoking cessation. Accelerated Resolution Therapy TF-CBT: I am also trained in Trauma Focused Cognitive Behavior therapy. With TF-CBT, interventions are specifically tailored to meet the needs of children and adolescents experiencing emotional and psychological difficulties as a result of trauma. TF-CBT is integrated with humanistic, cognitive behavioral, and familial strategies.</image:caption>

<image:title>Specialty - Girls, Tweens, & Teens</image:title>
<image:caption>Teen girls live in a complicated, contradictory, and media-saturated world, and the paths they must navigate extend beyond their physical bodies and minds. Some of these issues include: discovering a unique identity, taking on aspects of adulthood while leaving aspects of childhood behind, and developing independence while maintaining healthy communication, safety, and family bonds. Girls often need help recognizing their own skills and strengths, identifying influences that are shaping them, and learning to make logical and safe decisions. I have extensive experience working with young girls on the topics of body image, self esteem, peer pressure, life transitions, and academic, athletic, extracurricular, and social pressures. Within my practicum at The Lucy Cross Center, I provided expertise, counseling, and group therapy to young adult women targeting self-compassion and a variety of topics.</image:caption>

<image:caption>Expressive, Meditative, & Holistic Therapies Expressive therapies can involve the use of art, music, medication, creative writing, and more. These approaches reach beyond words to transform feelings and emotions that are deeply felt, but difficult to express in words. I can provide psychoeducation and practice around grounding techniques, daily and nightly behavioral coping skills, and mindfulness techniques to alleviate depressive and anxiety symptoms, thought rumination, and stress due to career, family dynamics, or relational/social issues. Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction: I have been trained in Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) which is an eight-week program that assists individuals who want to use their own internal resources to respond more skillfully to stress. Willow can provide a variety of mindfulness, grounding, meditative skills, and healthy coping mechanisms. Willow also provides calming meditations to help clients’ alleviate symptoms of anxiety, thought rumination, and overwhelming stress from their daily lives.</image:caption>
